Welcome to our Windows 12 for Dummies. Chapter 9

Broken Windows you may have odd screens, or Program Freezes, or menus keep popping up. or incomprehensible errors. You should first restart and save any files that it suggests. This often fixes minor problems.

Next you should do system restore if you have been using File History.

You first need to use the Reset Tool click the start button then the settings icon the gear wheel. Click the Update and security icon. When it appears click the Recovery option from the left pane. Then in the Reset this PC section click the Get Started button.

Two options are listed choose either Keep my Files, or Remove Everything. Choose one then click NEXT

You are asked how you would like to reinstall Windows. Cloud Download, or Local Reinstall choose the later first to save time. It asks to confirm then carries out your request. After Reinstalling Windows with your Yumi disk. When you are back to your fresh desktop.

Reinstall your desktop programs one by one restarting every time. In this way you may find the troublesome program.

If you are using a DVD to be careful on restart do not press “Don’t press any key” wait until the message disappears this will restore from the refreshed hard drive,

If you have wiped your hard drive completely you can use File History to restore the files.

Restoring backups with File History.

Use explorer to find the files that you have backed up with File History. Click the Home Tab on the Ribbon above your folder then click the History button. If you do not see the menu-filed Ribbon on top of the folder then click the up arrow in the folders up and right corner next to the blue question mark icon as this will now reveal the button.

You can see in the File History folder choose what you want to restore with point and click. Now click on the Restore button. If a conflict arises over naming it shows three ways to resolve the conflict.

Replace the file in the destination only if you are sure that the older file is better than the current one. Skip the file option if you do not want to restore it.

The third Option lets you compare the file sizes and dates. This will keep both files with a different number.

You can exit the File History by closing the window.

If you lose your password, you can obtain a Hiram’s DVD to restore it. This disk can do many repairs. You can buy one from Webhouses Store

Otherwise reinstall your Windows and this time put the password safely in a time capsule in the garden.

In search enter File History with your backup drive connected. You then see it is turned off Click Turn On.

This will start backing up to ensure it has everything then when finished it will back up every hour.
